God's Healing Peace

by Jessica Gentes

Proverbs 14:30 NIV
"A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones."

Proverbs 14:30 MSG
"A sound mind makes for a robust body, but runaway emotions corrode the bones."
We read a lot about "Peace" and how to seek God’s peace in a busy season like Christmas.  Often, we can relate to the feeling of needing to find God's peace in the busyness of life.  That may mean we are mindful about the number of commitments we agree to or the way we plan our gatherings. We focus our hearts on Jesus, and we center ourselves, bringing our mind back to Him.  Centering on him can bring relief to our hearts and minds, reminding us to lay down the things of our day, at the feet of Jesus.  It reminds us to pick up His peace. We take a deep breath and maybe feel as if we can tackle our day or our week a little easier.

We sometimes forget to think about peace and what it does for our physical bodies. Our minds get filled with stress and chaos as we navigate everything life throws at us and our mind gets cluttered. How does this affect our physical being? Do you notice more tension in your body or aches and pains? What about our sleep? What about the time we typically dedicate to taking care of our bodies (exercise, being outdoors, rest)? Is that getting pushed to the back burner?

Not only does the Peace of God bring relief and healing to our minds and heart, it can bring healing to our physical bodies. God desires for us to take care of ourselves. When we allow the things of this world to consume us and we lose sight of the Peace of God, it can break down not just our mind and mental wellbeing, but also our physical wellbeing. Taking care of ourselves, spending time in the Lord's presence, welcoming His peace, and centering on him. All things we should focus on this Advent season.

God's Peace is healing for our:
minds,
souls &
bodies.

Questions:

  1. What do you notice about your body right now? Tension? Aches?
  2. How are you sleeping?
  3. How else does the Peace of God bring wholeness to your body?

Actions:

Think about two things you can do this week to focus on your physical body and health. What needs to be done to care for your wellbeing? Pray over your body, speaking healing over physical needs. Breathe deeply as you rest in His peace and presence.
